Sowing!

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Sowing to The Spirit

Galatians 6:8 (KJV)

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Many have used these passages of scripture in Galatians only in the negative perspective letting people know, “You reap what you sow!”. However, verses 7-10 cover both aspects and are actually focused on the positive side of sowing and reaping. Sowing to the Spirit yields everlasting life!

You sow to the Spirit by intentionally maintaining your thoughts, words, and deeds IN love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. You also sow to the Spirit by sharing the gospel with others.

God is Not Mocked

Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

Be not deceived; God is not mocked…

God’s word will come to pass as He said it. Some may think they can get by doing their own thing, but you cannot sow to the flesh and reap life everlasting. However, if you sow to the Spirit you are going to reap the benefits of everlasting life. You will reap what you have sown!

Proverbs 11:18

The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

Reaping What is Sown

Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

…whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

”Soon you shall gather what you now scatter; Unto your life give diligent heed:

What we are sowing surely is growing,

That which we reap shall be as the seed.” - C W Naylor

Luke 6:44 (KJV)

For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

We must not think we will reap a harvest of something other than what we’ve down.

Sowing Bountifully

2 Corinthians 9:6

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

It is of the most importance that we sow as much to the Spirit as possible. You will not regret it. There is no comparison to investing with God. You are guaranteed a bountiful harvest! Let us do our best to labor for a heavenly increase!

Do Not Be Weary

Galatians 6:7-10 (KJV);

8... but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

It is easy to become weary when we have gone for a while without seeing any results. You will reap if you are patient. You will reap if you don’t give up!

So, let’s do good to all men! Let’s share the Word of God! Let us plant the seeds of love in our own life and the lives of others, especially those of like precious faith.

Please pray with us…

Dear Father, we come to you today with a thankful heart knowing that you are faithful and true. We ask you to help us to sow in the Spirit seeds of love that produce your life in others as well as ourselves. Help us to not shrink back from doing your will, but give us grace and strength to accomplish more than we ever thought could be done through us. -Amen

Growing!

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Grow in Grace

2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Grace - (from the Greek word Charis) Well favored and precious in the eyes of God. The divine influence of the Holy Spirit in your heart and life.

True spiritual growth can only happen thru God’s favor and His Divine influence in your heart and life.

Grow in The Knowledge of Our Lord

Let’s look at the thought of growing in the knowledge of our Lord, from a couple aspects:

  1. To understand who He is. We understand who Jesus is by what He has said, what He has done and how He has done it. We also understand Him better by viewing Him and all that He has said and done through the lens of the attributes of the Spirit.

  2. Then, understanding what He understands. Seeing from His perspective. Knowing what He knows! This comes from God revealing to us who He is.

Luke 10:22 (KJV)

22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Growing in God’s Divine Nature

2 Peter 1:2-9 (KJV)

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

These verses are showing us how to grow and in what areas to grow. We encourage you to read these verses in 2 Peter chapter 1, then meditate and study them while praying for the Spirit of God to reveal His understanding to you.

Please pray with us…

Dear Lord, we pray for guidance and understanding to know how to grow and where we should grow in you. We know that you are perfect and we are needy. Fill us afresh with your love and grace. Give us a heart like you! Help us to truly be partakers of your divine nature. In Jesus’ name… -Amen

Appropriating The Attributes

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Putting on and Taking off

Romans 13:12-14 (KJV)

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

There are things we need to adjust in our lives in order to live holy and blameless before God. Some things need to be put on and other things need to be taken off.

Building up your heart in the attributes of the Spirit of God that are working in your life is essential to true discipleship. Adjusting our lives to God‘s purpose and plan is the solution to true peace and happiness in this life.

Appropriating The Gifts Illustration:

Toward God

  1. Love

  2. Joy

  3. Peace

These attributes let God know that we are committed to doing His will with joy and are completely content in Him alone.

Toward Others

  1. Longsuffering

  2. Gentleness

  3. Goodness

The Spirit reveals Himself to others thru you being patient and gentle while doing that which is good.

Toward Yourself

  1. Faith

  2. Meekness

  3. Temperance

You can only fully understand and be confident in your own spiritual life when you have a meek heart and your flesh is under the control of the Spirit of God.

Please pray with us…

Father in heaven, we come to you today desiring to be clothed in Christ. We know that time is quickly passing and we cannot afford to allow our flesh to have it’s own way. We ask for divine wisdom to know how, and for divine grace to enable us to be more like you. - Amen
